Finding Joy in the Ordinary

Did you know that the word "joy" is used 165 times in the Bible? It is clear that the Lord wants us to find joy in His creation. It is so easy, however, for us to get swept up in our thoughts regarding our daily routines. It is difficult sometimes to wake up, knowing almost every single thing that will happen in your day.
Wake up, shower, brush your teeth, get dressed, get the kids ready, drop them off at school, drive to work, work, drive home, do laundry, eat dinner, watch tv, go to sleep... (Just an example, I know everyone's routine is different)
These things can feel incredibly monotonous when looking at the bigger picture, but when you pause to see all the things the Lord has provided, just for you to have this routine, it may change your heart a little.
He has given you a home, running water, clothing, a vehicle or access to transportation, a job, food, and a bed to rest in. Wow! What an amazing Father we have. When you pray a thankful prayer each time you do an "ordinary" task, your entire outlook will change.
We are called to pray without ceasing and give thanks in all circumstances (1 Thess. 5:16-18) When we have a thankful heart, we appreciate all of the "small" moments in our lives. Getting a cup of coffee in the morning, our children telling us they love us, hearing your favorite song on the radio, seeing a beautiful sunrise and appreciating God's work. He is working all the time for our good, and if we can slow down, we will start to see Him in everything we do.
"This is what I have observed to be good: that it is appropriate for a person to eat, to drink, and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given them - for this is their lot. Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil - this is a gift of God. They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart." Eccl. 5:18-20
Please take a moment to read this post my boyfriend found and sent me a few weeks ago:

God sees us, even in the most ordinary moments of our life. He comes to us when we are making dinner, doing laundry, studying, or taking care of our babies. When we allow ourselves to be consumed with praise for the current day we are living in, we will not have time to think about the past or be worried for the future. We can appreciate the gift from God that is today.
A few reminders for finding joy in the ordinary:
God can restore our joy (Psalm 51:12)
Joy is found in God's presence (Psalm 16:11)
We can Pray for joy (John 16:24)
Joy is found when we trust God (Psalm 40:4)
Joy is found when we have a thankful heart (Psalm 118:24)
If you are not feeling joy, get in God's Word
